Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's had great success with the tales she recounts about her early heartbreak. Swift was a fan of music from an early time. Swift quickly rose up the ranks, starting as a child actor and eventually performing in front of an audience of thousands. Swift was eleven years old when she performed The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers Basketball game. In the following year, she began writing songs and picked up the guitar. Swift, who took her influences from the music of Shania Twain and that of her band the Dixie Chicks now known as The Chicks within the realm in country music created the songs of her own to convey her feelings of alienation. Swift was only thirteen when her parents made the decision to sell their Pennsylvania farm to relocate to Hendersonville Tennessee. She could then devote all of her efforts to contacting the country music labels that were based in Nashville.
